Just a normal poem...

Hold On Tight

We reach for the stars
We try so hard
We reach for the sky
And we definitely know why

We call them dreams
Running swiftly like a thousand streams
They define our personality
They define who we’re going to be

These dreams don’t put you to sleep
They keep you wide awake, counting sheep
Because of them, we know what we want
So in the future, we can flaunt

Never give up on a goal
You’d cause life to have a gaping hole
They give us something to chase
Now keep up to the pace!

Sonnet

This is my sonnet, following the form of a traditional Shakespearean sonnet without the iambic pentameter.

Live. Laugh. Love.

They always told me life is never fair,
But, I saw hope and light in what I did.
If I had a problem, I hugged my bear.
This is how I dealt when I was a kid.

But growing up changes a lot of things,
When you are pushed down again and again.
The smile leaves, your heart no longer sings.
It’s an endless cycle that does not end.

I chase something that I can’t even name.
Goals, goals, goals, when will I start living life?
When will I stop playing this pointless game?
I just hope I’ll show something for the strife.

Dare to dream, dance, sing in the shower.
Enjoy the small things, take in the power.

Boneless Chicken and Friendless Patty

There once was a little girl named Patty.
Honestly, there never existed a bigger fatty.

Waiters would yell, “DUCK AND COVER!” when she entered the room.
They all went to go prepare her food, Patty would assume.
But in actuality, they all pitied her to-be groom.

She never cared about anything but her food.
Even in her dreams she would mutter, “This fettuccine alfredo is good.”
But finally, she found that she had no one but her chicken wings and eggs Benedict like no other
She was all alone, no father or mother.

They all ran away.
For all her food, they could not pay.
So Patty made up her mind to change.
And now she only eats ten pancakes in exchange!

Karma...Stronger Than Gravity

There was once a very evil boy
Who was anything but coy

There was another boy as well
He did not have many friends, you could tell

Evil Elliot decided to pull a prank
And put something in that which Shy Sam drank
He bought a Coke and into it some salt, pepper and spices sank

He sauntered over to Sam and sat next to him
See, he thought Sam was really dim
So he said, holding two glasses, “Here’s a Coke. Drink up!”
But unfortunately for him, Sam was smart and switched the cup!

Children's Poems

Growing up, many of us read nursery rhymes that taught us something much more important and deeper than we would guess. Please enjoy the next two poems in their simplicity as well as complexity!

Return My Heart

We looked up at the starry night
At a time when our love seemed so right
I’d cry out of happiness when you sat beside me
But now I cry sadly thinking of all the lies I didn’t see

Into time, I wish I could fall
I want you back, I want it all
If I could wish upon a star,
I’d wish you weren’t so far

When we hugged, I wanted it to last
When we kissed, it always seemed to go by so fast
You’d grab my hand and hold it tight in yours
Now when I think about it, the tears start to pour

You’d whisper in my ears, “You are the one.”
And that easily, my heart was won.
What you won, you took away.
My heart hasn’t returned to this day.

I thought we could travel the world together
Little did I know, you liked her better
I believed in the cards, the chocolates and the love
They say ‘one size fits all’, but for my hand, you are the perfect glove

Into time, I wish I could fall
I want you back, I want it all
If I could wish upon a star,
I’d wish you weren’t so far

Give me a chance to say one last thing
In your ears, I want it to ring
I love you.
And that statement will forever be true
